~Welcome to San Diego~

Origin of city's name: According to the San Diego Historical Society, Sebastian Vizcaino arrived in San Diego in November 1602 after sailing from Acapulco the previous May. It took his fleet six months to reach San Diego's bay.

San Diego was the name of Vizcaino's flagship (he had four ships, but only three made it to San Diego). He declared the area to be named San Diego, both in honor of his ship and for the feast of San Diego de Alcala (a Spanish Franciscan) which occurred on November 12.

On Coronado Island, I came across a little league all-star game.

This was the little league stadium.
Coronado Island was beautiful.

From the boat back to San Diego.
Balboa Park in San Diego.

On Sundays, Balboa Park has an international festival. I stayed and listened to this Irish 'band' for over an hour.
Time to leave Balboa Park for the meeting that night (hey, this was a work trip after all). My one souvenir - a baseball rose. A rose made from a baseball. I really thought I took more pictures.

San Diego Zoo

They put carrots and other fruit in these barrel type things for the elephants to 'work' to get treats.
